Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has numerous others in his district to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child.
The annual celebration is commemorated globally every October 11.
In a statement on Saturday, Sen. Abiru, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance & Other Financial Institutions, honoured the intelligence and the determination of the Girl Child to make impacts.
“On this special day of International Day of the Girl Child, I join esteemed constituents of Lagos East Senatorial District, in honouring the strength, intelligence, and courage of girls, who continue to rise above challenges and make their voices heard.

Through our various initiatives, including digital skills training, STEM programme, championed by The SAIL Innovation Lab, an initiative of the SAIL Empowerment Foundation, an endowment founded by myself and my wife, Feyisola Abiru, we continue to create safe spaces and platforms that enable young girls to learn, lead, and thrive in an ever-changing world.
The 2025 theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” resonates deeply with our times. It reminds us that girls are not merely victims of circumstances but powerful agents of change, leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers shaping a more just and equitable future.
The senator emphasised the importance of empowering the Girl Child and ensure equal access to opportunities

“As a father, legislator, and advocate for inclusive development, I believe that empowering the girl child is one of the most effective ways to secure our collective future. Every girl deserves access to quality education, healthcare, safety, and opportunities to dream and aspire without limits. When we invest in girls, we are investing in stronger families, resilient communities, and a more prosperous nation.
“On this special day, I salute every girl who dares to lead, who speaks up for justice, and who refuses to be defined by limitations. You are the light and hope of our nation!
“Happy International Day of the Girl Child 2025!”
